Turning our Weaknesses Into Strengths

Perfection is our goal and yet it is impossible to attain in mortality. Jesus Christ, of all the billions upon billions of God's children who have lived on this earth, was the only one who remained perfect in mortality. We, you and I, have weaknesses. Because of these weaknesses we sin, we stumble, we fall. But there is a beautiful promise given to us by Jesus Christ in the Book of Mormon:

And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. (Ether 12:27)

Think, for a moment, of all your weaknesses . . . now imagine them, turned from the negative to the positive and because of that, they are your strengths. All we have to do is come unto Jesus Christ. It's as simple as that.

So what does "come unto Christ" mean? Simply put, we must:

Wherefore, Father, spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life. (D&C 45:5)

and

Yea, blessed are the poor in spirit who come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (3 Nephi 12:3)

and

Therefore come unto me and be ye saved; for verily I say unto you, that except ye shall keep my commandments, which I have commanded you at this time, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. (3 Nephi 12:20)

Believe in Jesus Christ, be humble and meek (poor in spirit), keep the commandments - all of them - and our weaknesses will become our strengths. We must live our lives as Jesus Christ lived His, to the best of our abilities. We must constantly pray to our Father in Heaven in prayer, asking in the name of Jesus Christ, for the strength we need to continue to follow in Christ's footsteps.

At this time of year, when He is so prevalent in the minds of Christians across the world, it's a good time to shed our weaknesses and reach for the hand Jesus Christ holds out to us. If we continually strive, even when we fall we get back up, repent and move forward, to follow in His footsteps, putting everything we have to living our lives like He did, then we are doing our part. Christ's Atonement paid for the rest.

Come unto Jesus Christ and your weaknesses will become your strengths.
